About
Yoga4Health is a carefully structured 10-week group programme designed to support health, resilience and long-term wellbeing through the integrative practices of yoga. Developed within the NHS social prescribing context, it offers a gentle and accessible approach for people seeking a more supportive relationship with stress, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle balance and self-care. The Yoga in Healthcare Alliance describes Yoga4Health as a 10-week programme developed for the NHS and delivered within social prescribing pathways. Each weekly session weaves together simple yoga practices, breathwork, relaxation, mindfulness or meditation, and reflective group discussion, alongside guided home practice between sessions. The intention is not simply to offer a class, but to help participants build a personal and sustainable toolkit of practices that can support regulation, steadiness, self-awareness and healthier patterns over time. The programme is designed to be accessible to beginners, with practices adapted so that each person can work at their own pace in a supportive and non-judgemental environment. What makes Yoga4Health especially valuable is its breadth: it brings together movement, breath, rest, reflection, community and home practice in a way that supports the whole person. It offers space not only for relief in the moment, but also for the gradual cultivation of greater balance, confidence and wellbeing in daily life. A University of Westminster evaluation reported encouraging findings for Yoga4Health as a social prescribing intervention, including improvements in perceived stress, wellbeing and social connection.
